Sestri Levante

On a thin land strip of an enchanting peninsula with rich mediterranean vegetation, Sestri Levante faces the Gulf of Tigullio eastwards and offers the most typical expression of the Ligurian landscape.

It is also known as “the city of the two seas” for the historical built up area extends as far as a peninsula separating two gulfs.
The “Baia del Silenzio”, eastwards, faced by the historical area buildings and, facing west, the “Baia delle Favole” so named by Hans Christian Andersen, to whom it is dedicated the annual literary award, where also lies the touristic port of Sestri Levante.
Besides the Romanesque church of San Nicolò, the historical area rich of 15th century buildings with the typical slate doorways, Sestri offers an important picture-gallery – the Galleria Rizzi – that keeps precious paintings of the 17th and 18th century, and several villas of the same age perfectly preserved.
